Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day, this year my husband gave me something a bit different to the usual roses and chocolates. I got a new watering can.

I did tell him I wanted one so I'm happy with that.

Now I can water all the beautiful roses in our garden and pick flowers whenever I want.

Scrap jar quilt

The internet and other blogs are so full of inspiration that I could spend all day just going from page to page and getting so many ideas. When I found this block tutorial over at Amber's blog... A little bit biased, I wanted to start it straight away. Well it wasn't long before I had one row complete. Then after lots and lots of hours sewing I finally finished the quilt top.

I'm so pleased with the end result and even more excited that Amber has posted about my quilt on her blog. Thank you Amber you really have made my day.

My zinnias look so pretty in my garden right now I just had to include them in a photo.

A new quilt

My first new quilt for 2012, made by me for my youngest son. The fabric is called Children at play and it is so sweet.

I made a simple row of sqaures with sashing in between, these quilts are quick to put together.

Look at these little boys, so cute...

And these ones, they remind me of my 3 boys when they were little. Except there would have been some arguing thrown in there somewhere. Probably over who could hold the rocket.

I found this binding fabric at spot light in the clearance bin for $2 a metre, it works beautifully around the quilt.

I was having some fun this morning taking my photos and thought the quilt would sit nicely in the flower pot stand.

I love photos of quilts all rolled up. Today I hope to finish my Scrap Jars quilt, just the borders to go. I can't wait to show you all.

What I've been stitching and growing.

These holidays I was busy stitching some new blocks for a new block of the month by Natalie Bird. The fabric hasnt arrived at the shop yet so I can't put it together but I can't wait as the fabric we'll be using is from Fig Tree quilts called Californai Girl. Its so pretty and cheerful.

This summer I grew Zinnias for the first time and I'm so pleased with them all. They really add a bit of colour to the garden.

Our roses are still very pretty and growing well.

And of course the dahlias are just delightful.

Australia Day Sewing

I am enjoying making this quilt so much, I'm trying to work on it whenever I can. As I don't have a sewing room I have to set up at the kitchen table so at 9am this morning I started sewing and didn't stop until it was time to start dinner.

I first discovered this block on Jodi's blog over at Pleasant Home and immediately I knew I wanted to make it. There is a tutorial by Amber from A little bit Biased and its fantastic. You should check it out of you love scrappy sewing. Amber has made a mini quilt in red, white and blue, its so cute.

I still have 5 blocks to make for the bottom row then I'll have to think about a border. I have quite a few 3 1/2" squares left so I want to use them in a border of some kind.

So Australia Day was a good sewing day for me while the boys watched cricket.

A Day at the Beach

It was so hot here today we decided to head to the beach for a bit of relaxation. It was good family time.

The boys played on their boogie boards,

and played down ball.

While I sat and sewed some hexagons,

It was such a nice way to spend the day.

A challenging scrap project

Last week I joined in Jodi's sew scraps challenge, I have had such good fun going through my stash and finding suitable fabrics to use. Its as scrappy as I can make it. I really struggle with the scrappy look as I like my fabrics to compliment each other, but I think its all coming together nicely.

The 9 patch block in the middle is fun to do and its adds that little bit of interest.

I love doing the stars and deciding which fabric goes where .I try to not repeat the same fabric in the one block. Thats how scrappy works isn't it??

So here we have the first 2 rows of 5. I want to do a scrappy border so I'll have to think about that for awhile. I can't wait to work on it some more.

Our eldest son Daniel is 16 today, sorry I have no photo of him to share, he doesn't like to be on my blog very often. Teenagers like to be difficult.

A little bit of painting

Do you remember last year when I painted my really old crystal cabinet?I liked the colour so much that I wanted to paint a couple of other pieces of furniture.

So last weekend hubby and I repainted this cupboard that lives in our bathroom, it was a pine colour before. Paul started painting while I was at work so I didn't get a before shot. I love the way it turned out. It makes the bathroom look so much softer.

Living with 4 males I have to keep it fairly neutral as we all share the bathroom but every now and again I'll add something pretty.

I made this fabric basket during the week to hold soaps and lotions, I must get the inside of the binding sewn down. I got a bit excited and put on the shelf for some photos.

I had these cute little fabric hearts in the drawer so I took them out to have on display. They look nice on the blue hand towel.

We also have an 0ld writing desk which you may remember quite awhile back I painted black ( that was in my primitive look phase) I loved it but it didn't really fit in with all the other furniture so we painted that to and it looks great in the lounge in the corner opposite my crystal cabinet.

One more week of holidays to sew, paint and have fun with the boys before I go back to work. Its going to be great.

Some new fabrics

When we went to Hobart on Monday the boys went to look at boy things so I went to look at fabric shops. I went to the Needlewoman first. Its a beautiful shop with such lovely fittings and the fabrics are so pretty. I bought just a few fat quarters, these pretties by Lecien .

And these ones by Kate Spain, I think its called Fandango.

Then I popped in to Spotlight to buy some much wanted Denise Schmidt fabric. I was very excited to learn that Spotlight had these fabrics. I have a plan for these beauties.

Look at all that yumminess. I can't wait to cut into these.

I also found some pretty tea cups, they matched some of my flower sugar fabrics so I just had to have those to.

It was a great day shopping for me.

Camping at Swansea was fun, the boys caught over 50 fish, they had such a good time. Poor Daniel cut his finger though at 10pm on the first night there so we took him to the medical centre where he had 5 stitches.

Next week we are planning a bush walk at The Great Lakes. I'm looking foreward to that.

Today I plan to do a bit of sewing. I hope you do to.

A little bit of sewing

Not a real lot of sewing to share with you as I worked all last week but now I'm on 2 weeks holiday so I plan to get lots of sewing done in between doing things with hubby and our boys. Tomorrow we are going to Hobart for a bit of retail therapy. The boys have some christmas money just burning a hole in their pocket.. Wednesday we are off to Swansea to do some camping. Should be fun I hope. I'm not much of a camper but I'll give it a go. I plan to do a bit of stitching while the boys are fishing. I did make a new needle case for myself from a charm pack. I loved making it.

This is the back view, it folds in twice if you know what I mean.

This is the inside, I think I should have put the felt to the side as the pockets will be more useful then so I'll make a note of that for next time.

Our garden is looking very pretty with lots of new plants flowering for the first time. I think this plant is Queen Annes lace. Its so delicate and lovely. I planted a pack of mixed seeds and lots of new plants popped up.

A new rose which is just divine, the scent is beautiful.

This one is my favourite, its so pretty and soft.

This cute little baby bird was sitting on our garden waste bin and making such a fuss, I went outside to have a closer look with my camera and I think he was stuck there, I picked him up and sat him on the ground and he ran off as he couldn't quite fly. His Mum and dad were close by and gave him a good talking to, it was so funny to watch.

Sunday Sewing

I got a lovely surprise in the post on Friday, it was my christmas present from my friend Stephany, all the way from Belgium. She has made me a beautiful heart garland. I thought it looked really sweet hanging on my kitchen shelf. If I was lucky enough to have a sewing room it could go in there but alas I haven't so I'll leave it here where I can admire it while I'm cooking. Thankyou Steph, I love it. So pretty.

Also pretty is my new rose that has flowered for the first time, the colour is so soft and delicate.
I love roses.

Today I did a bit of sewing on my first new quilt for the year, this is for my youngest son, The fabric is called Children at play. I thought a simple square with some sashing was all it needed as I didn't have a lot of fabric to play with. Its looking good so far.

Back to work tomorrow which will be nice, just for the week then I'm having some more time off to spend with the boys and hubby. We are planning on going fishing and to the beach.

Meet my new friends

We are having such a good time on our christmas/new year break, we have been swimming almost everyday. The swimning lessons have finally paid off and now the boys enjoy the water so much more. I have had a day or two for myself and I made these gorgeous Tilda dolls, they were so much fun to make.

I enjoyed making their clothes more than I enjoyed making the doll body but they weren't to hard to assemble.

This one is my favourite, I just love her red jacket, I made it from polar fleece and found a trim to sew around the edges. Their hair was tricky but after doing one doll I got the hang of it.

I recevied this Tilda book for christmas and the dolls on the front cover looked so sweet with their overalls on so I had to make a pair for my doll and give the first Tilda doll a friend.

The boys have laughed at me a few times while I played with ( I mean made ) my dolls, Jacob even said I looked cute playing dolls. A funny thing for a 13 year old to say but I thought he was sweet. Then we got on to talking about toyes I used to play when I was their age. They can't belive we didn't have computers and x box. Kids of today really don't know how lucky they are, especially mine.

A few more days off then back to work for a week then I have some more time off to sew, go the beach, go fishing with our friends and do whatever we feel like. oh the joy!!!!

More Christmas gifts

I had lots of fun making many christmas gifts this year, this cute little owl was for Lillian. It was fun to make and easy.

I also made her this cute little Anni Downs Ornament. Stitchery is my favourite thing to do so this was a pleasure to make.

And this book bag was for Lillian to. I hope it comes in useful for projects or books.

My on line stitching group had a secret santa and this was the main gift I made for Tess. I loved making this project.

This beautiful project was a gift for ME. My lovely friend Roseanne was my secret santa and she made me this block keeper and matching bag. I love it, the fabric is Ruby and its so pretty. Thankyou Razzy.

Now I have finished sewing for others for a little while I have been making things for me. I'm having lots of fun. I'll be back to share soon.

SSCS gifts

Here is my beautiful christmas gifts all the way from Martine in Belgium. The snowman stitchey is beautiful and I look foreward to trying the Belgium biscuits.

This is a wall hanging I made for my partner in the USA. I haven't heard from her yet so I hope she likes it.

Bright colours like these were way out of my comfort zone but it was fun to use something a bit different, My partner likes only bright colours so I really had to put my thinking cap on for this swap.

Thankyou to Chooky blue for organising the swap, I know how much work is involved in putting it altogether and she does a great job. 3 cheers for chooky.

Christmas things

Only 2 sleeps til santa comes, even though my boys are older they still get excited.
Yesterday we made this gingerbread house, its the first time we have done this and it was so much fun, the boys ate more lollies than they put on the house but hey!! its christmas. Thats what they kept telling me.

As soon as it was finished they wanted to start eating it, typical boys. I'm making them wait until christmas day before they can have a nibble. Aren't I mean.

At work we did a Kris Kringle where we had to make something for one person, Marian made for me and this is what I reiceved, its a great couch companion that she designed herself.

Look at the embriodery, its just beautiful.

This is a needlecase and its so cute, she even embriodered my name on the front.

My on line stitching group do a christmas swap each year and this year we had to give 6 gifts, one to open each day from the 20th Dec. My secret santa was Razzy and this is the first gift I reiceved from her. Its so sweet, look at the choccy spoon. I love it.

My Vegie garden

If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know how much I love my garden. Every Spring and summer we get the vegie garden going. This year we have spinach, radish and snow peas just to name a few.

In one section of the garden we have green and yellow zucchini growing, I told my husband to stop watering in the steriods, Here is a zucchini that we missed so it has been growing for a few weeks and this is what we found.

Its huge and probably not that tasty now but I'll give it a go. Its 20 inches long.

I'll have to find some new zucchini recipes as we are getting a bit sick of zucchini slice and zucchini and walnut cake, any ideas??? Does any know if you can freeze grated zucchini? I should just try it and see if it works.

Present for mum

Every year I always struggle with what to make my mum for christmas. This year I found a lovely Sally Giblin pattern that I knew mum would like. Its a lovely cushion with stitchery and applique, the writing says "Mothers are like buttons, they hold things together"

I chose mum's favourite colours which are yellow and blue. The cushion matches lovely with my blue hydrangea.

All my christmas presents are finished and in the mail, some have even arrived to their new home which is always good. Today I'm having a "me" sewing day. I want to finish some decorations I started to make. I hope you find some sewing time today .

Secret santa parcel has arrived.

My secret santa package arrived today all the way from Belgium, its very exciting. We had to send our partners an ornament that could be opened straight away and this is what I recieved from Martine, its so sweet. My other packages are safely under the christmas tree.

These cute little reindeers are on the other side of the ornament. This swap is wonderfully organised by Chookyblue.

Can any one help me with a blogger problem, I am trying to update my OPAM finishes for 2011 but when I open it a box comes up but nothing is in it, It just won't seem to load the content. This has been going on for weeks and I thought it may just fix itself but it hasn't. I can't even remove it from my blog as the box just stays blank . Any suggestions will be wonderful, thankyou.

A nice surprise

When I got home from work yesterday a wonderful surprise was left at my door by the postie, inside was this lot of adorable treasures from my lovely friend Joni, all the way from Canada.

Joni had told me she was sending me a christmas ornament but I never expected a box full.

They are just so sweet and so are you Joni for sending them to me.

Look at these little mittens, so cute.

My patchwork group is having our christmas luncheon today so I'm looking foreward to that.

Tonight I want to work on my last christmas gift then I'm done.

Some christmas finishes

Most weekends we like to cook a few treats for lunch boxes during the week, Number 3 son wanted to try cooking with me this time so we made a carrot cake. He borrowed the cook book from the school library. Nicky did most of the work while I supervised and kept my hands in my pocket so I didn't take over. He was so proud of his efforts, the cake by the way is delicious, I hope there will be some left for lunch boxes tomorrow.

My on line stitching group had an ornament swap, my partner was Roseanne. She made me the pretty heart ornament pictured above and I made her the ornament below.

I have been busy finishing off a few christmas gifts, I made these book bags for some international friends,

These smaller ones were fun to do, they are on their way to England. Just a few more gifts to finish off and I'm done for another year.

I'm wondering if someone can tell me how to change the colour of the words on my header photo.I have looked right through blogger but I must be missing something. I want to change it to make it stand out a bit more, Any help would be great. Thankyou

Quilt for Sale

I have had a clean out of my cupboard and I pulled out this quilt. I have decided to sell it as I don't have alot of room to store all my quilts. The quilt is an Anni Downs design that I made in 2008. Its called An Angels Story.I used Antique flower collection fabrics by Lecien. The size of the quilt is 68x68 inches. It sits on my queen size bed just nicely.

The cost is $180 including postage. I can only post within Australia I'm sorry as the postage costs are too high to ship international.

Here is a photo of the backing, its a green print with little leaves on it.

It was quilted by me.

A few new goodies

I'm so lucky to work in a quilt shop and see all the beautiful things that come into the shop before anyone else. Sometimes I snap them up so quickly, the customer doesn't even get to see them. This Tilda book is the perfect example, it came in last week and as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted it. The front cover is beautiful.

And these beautiful Tilda dolls. I'm not a great doll maker but I'll give it a go.

I also purchased this lovely christmas stitchery from Rosealie Quinlan designs, I look foreward to stitching this.

On the weekend Lillian went to Melbourne to the Australian quilt market, she gave me this fantastic bag that she got there. I think it will fit quite a few fat quarters.

She also gave me a beautiful roll of Rosalie's fabric and a piece of fabric from Natalie Lymers new range. Thankyou Lillian my gifts are lovely.

So I'm a bit lucky to get wonderful gifts and work in a lovely patchwork store.

A finish for Christmas

I'm so pleased with myself, I made this quilt in under 2 weeks, It turned out so pretty. I decided to use it as my Christmas quilt even though its not made with Christmas fabrics. I found the pattern on Moda fabrics web site. I used my Bliss fabric and the odd bit of Ruby.

All I need to do is sew on the binding,

I'll have it ready to hang on the wall by mid week I reckon. Do you like it?

I had to share my new Jane McGrath rose that has flowered for the first time, its just stunning

And my lovely geranium I grew from a cutting. Summer is always a pretty time in my garden.

Before I share some photos of my newest finishes I wanted to show you my beautiful rose, the scent isn't very strong but the colour is so soft and pretty.

Recently it was my friend Stephany's birthday, she lives in Beligium and I wanted to make her a gift so I made leanne Beasley's couch companion.

I really enjoyed making this, I love to do stitchery so I loved making the front the most. Steph loves reproduction fabrics so the inside is all reproduction fabric, the pin cushion is a cheater fabrics and I think it works really well.

I'm so glad you liked it Steph and you had a wonderful birthday.

With Christmas fast approaching I have made myself a little wall hanging, I loved making this. I used bright aqua fabrics for a change instead of the traditional red and green,

November is a great month for me finishing things so stay tuned as I have a big finish almost ready to share.

Gifts for a very special friend

Its amazing how many wonderful friends I have made through my blog. One lady in particular lives in Canada, even though she doesn't have her own blog she took the time to e-mail me one day and tell me how much she enjoyed reading my blog and looking at the projects I make. Well since then, we have become really good friends. It was Joni's birthday just recently and I wanted to make her something really special so I came up with this cushion, the stitchery is a Leanne Beasley design and I decided to make it into the cushion, it was so much fun to do as you all know how much I LoVE doing stitchery.

We decided to make each other an ornament for christmas and this is the one I made. Its a Marg Lowe pattern. I love making these.

I'm so pleased Joni liked the gifts I made her. I think I left her feeling slightly gob smacked didn't I Joni.

Today I plan on doing a bit more christmas stitching, its raining so I have the perfect excuse. Thats what I'm telling myself anyway.

3 sweet girls

We are so lucky to have such great neighbours, they have 3 girls and one boy ( hi Lui ). A few weeks ago Kitty came over to show me her new doll and she asked me if I knew how to make doll clothes. As I didn't have a clue how to make tiny pants for a doll I offered to make her doll a quilt. Well I couldn't just make one so I made all the girls a gift. Here is Kitty with her new quilt.

This sweet girl is Anna with her new quilt.

Maggie is a little bit older and she loves to read so I made her a book bag. It turned out so well I have made several more since last weekend.

I took this photo at Hagely on our retreat last weekend, I thought the quilts looked so good on the rusty fence.

I have achieved a few finishes over the weekend but they are christmas gifts so I can't share just yet.

This year Esmes patchwork was lucky enough to be apart of Quilt aid, There are 12 blocks by 12 different designers, all of them are so pretty. The fabric is Ruby by Moda, and its gorgeous. This block was designed by Helen Stubbings of Hugs n kisses

On Saturday while we were at camp, we decided to go to the Deloraine craft fair, I had never been before so it was good to go and see what its all about. We came across the Hoffman quilting exhibition which was very interesting, I saw some very unusual quilts.

I thought this one was stunning. So much work involved in making it.

Check out the ladies hat.

While we were at Hagley I decided to go for a walk around the farm with my quilts and take a few photos. I ended up at the playground and hung my quilts on the equipment,

I loved this shot of my quilt hanging from the tree.

This was my favourite photo, all 3 quilts together. It made me wish I had all my quilts there as the back drops were just so perfect and the weather was beautiful.
Next year I'll just have to go it all again with other quilts. Ah the joy of quilting.

Hagley quilt camp part 1

I have had the best weekend with my quilting friends at our annual quilt camp to Hagley school farm. I haven't laughed and talked so much in ages. I did get plenty of sewing done which I was pleased about.The scenery is beautiful and the weather was perfect.

This was home for the weekend, it was a great place. 39 beds in total so we all had plenty of room as there was only 10 of us.

Cathy and Pauline were busy sewing most of yesterday, Pauline was finishing off an old project and Cathy was starting a new one. They had me in fits of laughter all day. Pauline you are such a card.

Sue (no blog) works for Pauline, she was busy working on a Piecemakers quilt which is going to be beautiful.

Look at these adorable faces, I went for a walk around the farm yesterday with my quilts to take a few pictures, these two came over to the gate to say hello.

The high light of the day was going for a ride on my friends new Motorbike. Isn't it a beauty. I didn't drive it though, I sat on the back. It was good fun.

I have lots more pics to share so I'll be back tomorrow, today I have to catch up on heaps of washing and finish some sewing. Its a public holiday here today which is nice.

Breast Cancer morning tea

Today at work, we had a special breast cancer morning tea. It was a lovely morning. The above stitchery was made by Lillian, its so pretty. The pattern is by Janet Rowe. We have kits at the shop.

Lillian had some special balloons we blew up with helium, that was a fun experience. Everytime we used the helium bottle we both jumped. It was really loud and so quick. You had to be there really.

These ladies are listening to Lillians welcome speech.

These ladies are busy making some projects we had on offer for the morning.

This quilt was made by Lillian, she is running a competition to guess how long it took her to make. If you guess right.... You win the quilt.If you're local pop in and have a guess, its running for a couple more weeks. Good Luck.

A new project in the making...

I got up at 6am this morning, went for a walk, came home, had breaky and started my house hold chores. By 8.30 I was ready to sew, whoo hoo. I had all intentions of working on a few christmas projects today . I went to the cupboard to get my sewing and got distracted by some blocks I had cut out a couple of weeks ago, They are so pretty so I thought, I'll just spend an hour working on a few more blocks, they are easy after all. Then I'll get going with my christmas sewing.

So I made more blocks then I thought I'd lay them out in rows to see how they looked. Well of course I had to sew the row together.

Well that row led to another row and then another, can you see where I"m going with this. By lunch time I had 7 rows together. The quilt was looking beautiful, so I then started making more blocks for the last 3 rows. I got NO christmas sewing done at all but it doesn't matter there's always next weekend.

Do things like this ever happen to you? I must learn to concentrate on one project at a time but I doubt that will ever happen.

Tonight I might try and work on my christmas ornament at least then I can say I did a tiny bit of christmas sewing.

Weekend sewing

What a weekend, I have had such a good sewing time. I got lots done including this christmas table topper which I just love, All it needed was the binding sewn down, so last night I did that little job.

Yesterday I made all the shoo fly blocks for the top row of my Vignette quilt, this took practically all day. I made 22 of them. They do look so pretty don't you think.

Today I sewed the 2 sides together and did the tracing for one side. I haven't actually done much stitching but I will get stuck into that when I go on my quilt camp in 2 weeks. ( can't wait )

I'm using flower sugar fabrics which are my absolute favourite right now, do you go through stages of just loving a range of fabric? I have noticed my fabric tastes have changed alot since I first started quilting 5 years ago.

So bright and cheery.

I also did alot of christmas sewing which I can't share yet, I'm slowly getting them done. Its a good feeling to cross some off the list.

Remember when ....

.... I started this quilt? It was over 18 months ago and finally its FINISHED. Hooray.This quilt is called Remember when by Libby Richardson. It was a lovely project to work on, the fabrics are soft and pretty.

This is my favourite block, I love the buttons in the jar.

I also enjoyed this one. I thought the school bus was so cute.

So now I can concentrate on Down in the garden which I have been working on for ages to. I'll share my progress with that one soon,

A new quilt

I love my new quilt, its so warm and snuggly, I made this quilt from 3 charm packs and just added some sashing and a border. The end result is beautiful.

I quilted a pattern all over called Country garden,I thought it was a bit French looking which went well with the French General fabric which by the way is called Pom Pom de Paris. Its very pretty.

This afternoon I picked some lilacs from our garden the scent is beautiful.

I plan on a big sewing day tomorrow. I am working on a few christmas gifts which are looking great but I can't share them just yet.

A nice day off

Today we all had the day off from school and work, unfortunately my husband didn't but that can't be helped so this morning the boys and I set off for a walk through Cataract Gorge which is a hop, skip and a jump away from home. They weren't keen to go at first but when I mentioned I'd buy morning tea afterwards that changed their mind.

It was a hard walk but gee it felt good, I love to try and challenge myself and see what I can achieve.

We did stop for a few photos, I think Daniel left his smile at home, either that or he was sick of me taking photos.

We had morning tea with the peacocks, they were beautiful and very friendly.

This afternoon I thought I would get my hexagons from the back of the cupboard and actually make some more, I got 2 together and they are so cute, I cut out heaps more so tonight I'll do a few more.

Why does a day off go so quickly, its been fun. I hope you had a lovely day today.

A stitching Sunday

Today was such a beautiful day, after lunch I sat out in the garden with my stitching and enjoyed the sunshine. I was also entertained by 2 of my boys who decided to have a water balloon fight.It was funny watching them run around the yard chasing each other, trying not to be the one who got wet.

I worked on my Vignette stitching. I decided I didn't really like the fabrics I had chosen to do the first block so I started again using flower sugar. Luckily I hadn't done a real lot. I have to say I'm much happier now with it all.

This morning I sewed the top row and part of the side.

This is part of the top row, it looks so pretty, the photo doesn't really do it justice.

I just had to share some pretty daisies from our garden, they really do cheer me up.

Good mail from over the sea

A few weeks ago I did a little swap with my new blogger friend LuAnn, I love the fact I have made so many new friends world wide since I started my blog. Here are the goodies LuAnn sent me, they arrived yesterday. Beautiful Fig tree quilts fabrics, rotary blades, patterns and my 2 favourite magazines. Thanks so much LuAnn. I will enjoy everything you sent me.

I also recevied my beautiful Cath Kidston fabric, I have 3 fat quarters so its a good start. Its so pretty.

My friend Jan sent me this cute tumbler kit for my birthday, it is full of reproduction fabrics and muslin so I will enjoy putting this beauty together.

And last but not least I got some more flower sugar fabrics. I found these on e-bay UK. They are my favourite fabrics right now. So fresh and pretty.

I am in the process of organising our November Long weekend at Hagley Farm.
See I havent totally deserted you, it just seems like it!! I have even started stitching again!!!
At this stage I have booked Friday the 4th, Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of November...so in 4th and home the 7th.
We did discuss at one point having an excursion to the Deloraine Craft fair on one of those days?
We can do the shared catering thing again!

I love my flower sugar

I love the quilt making process, from finding the perfect pattern that goes with that perfect fabric. I got very excited when I found flower sugar fabrics by lecien, they are so pretty, cheerful and bright. Of course I bought them on a whim not having the slightest idea what I would make with them. Then one day flicking through a magazine that perfect pattern hit me and I knew I would use my flower sugar fabrics for this quilt. Adding the binding is always such fun, probably because I know my new quilt is almost finished and I get to hold it a bit longer while I hand sew down the binding.

When I make a quilt I always make a page for my quilt journal, this one was such fun. I used fabric scraps to make my bunting. The stickers were the perfect colour to match the fabric. Inside the page I add a few pieces of fabric and I write about the quilt and include a few photos. Its always fun to look back on.

Now my quilt is finished except for the label, I decided to stitch one and add a few flowers so as soon as thats done I can sew it on the back and show you.

I love this quilt, now its time to move on and start thinking about my next project.

When I have time, I love to sit and look at other blogs, it was recently I discovered Cath Kidston through blogland and immediately I liked what I saw and I had to have some of her products for myself. I bought these products from Amazon, first is Cath's book SEW. Its full of beautiful projects and I even got some fabric with the book to make the bag on the front cover, how cool is that!!!

This recipe organiser is just so sweet, the pages are beautiful. I can't wait to write my favourite recipes inside.

Beautiful writing paper, I love writing letters.

A booklet full of cards, they are just gorgeous, I don't think I can bear to part with them.

A folder full of mini cards, these are perfect little gift cards.

So cute are all of Cath Kidston products. I have some fabric coming my way very soon, (thanks Karen) I can't wait for it to arrive, then I can start on my very own Cath Kidston quilt.

Girls Day Out

Yesterday I went on a shop hop with my lovely blogger friends Sarah, Christine, Vicki and Vicki's friend Chris. We had a great day out. Sarah and I went to Fresh Fabrics at Deloraine, it was a nice shop, very bright and cheerful. This was a very special purchase from that store, It Kokka fabric in Flower sugar, its quite thick like a canvas. It will make a beautiful bag. At $35 a meter I only could afford to buy one.

Here we all are at The cherry shed for afternoon tea. It was delicious.

We went to a shop called Wells,I hadn't been there before. I got these christmas fabrics to make my christmas ornaments using the Theodora Cleave buttons.

I also found some Riley Blake Sugar and Spice fabric from Picture patchwork. I had used some of it before to make my stitching folder so I bought a few extra fat quarters to make something else.

Here is my stitching folder, I also made a matching lap top cover a little while ago.

TodaY I have 3 bindings to sew on my quilts so I will be pleased to get that done. I hope you find some sewing time today.

Special gifts for me

My wonderful friend Stephany sent me these beautiful hand made gifts for my birthday, they came all the way from Belgium so to me they are extra special. Look at this adorable hexagon key ring, you can see just how small it is in my hand.

And this apple core tag is padded and so cute.

I just love the bags Steph has made with labels on them, she even included the contents.

The pin cushion is so sweet with tiny tumbler blocks, its almost to cute to use.

Thankyou Steph, and you said you couldn't make things, well I think you have done an amazing job.

Some beautiful daffodils from my garden, they are so cheerful and bright, much like my friend Kathy who has a new blog, you should pop over and check it out. Sew happy house is full of great tips, product reviews and much more.

I was a bit excited today when I found some Cath Kidston fat quarters on e-bay in the UK. They are so hard to come by, I thought I would start collecting then when I have enough I can start on a very special quilt.

For me August was a busy making month, now September is going to be my finishing month. May I introduce you to my new Swoon quilt. I just love this quilt.

Here is the top on Sunday before I put the final borders on, the layout is perfect, all my fabrics balanced nicely.

Yesterday morning I quilted it, the pattern is called Country Garden, its my favourite pattern. I think its elegant. I have used it on a few of my quilts.

The pictures aren't great as the weather has been miserable, so here it is on my bed. Now I'm going to make some new pillow cases to match.

You may notice that my swoon quilt isn't the only quilt I have made using Flower sugar fabrics, here is one I made a few months ago and it ties in nicely with the theme, Now I just need to get the binding on.

A special day

Today is my birthday, its been a lovely day. As we live far from family I always get lots of special phone calls which is always nice. My mum made me these beautiful christmas goodie bags and a knitted scarf.

My mother in law sent me these beautiful fabrics, I'm sure they will be put to good use.

My 11 year old son made me the most beautiful card and included a cherry ripe bar he bought with his own pocket money, I thought that was so special. My other 2 boys are a bit tight with their money so a happy birthday hug was just as good.

From my on line stitching group I recieved this lovely Rosalie Quinlan table runner made by Maree, I love it Maree, thankyou.

When I got to work today Lillian surprised me with the most exquisite flower, its just beautiful. Thankyou.

Tonight is a quiet night in with Paul and the boys, nothing different really but its just the way I like it.

Swoon blocks

I have only 1 swoon block to make and then my top will be ready to put together, I plan to do that tomorrow, today I made these 2 and I LOVE the fabrics, its all Flower sugar by Lecien and its so pretty. I love this soft colour combination. I can see this quilt is going to be my most favourite.

I have got my borders on my Bow tie quilt and I love the way it turned out, now I just need to quilt it. I joined alot of my light reproduction fabrics together to make the backing. As soon as the quilt is all finished I'll share some more pics.

Almost a finish

I have had a good sewing day today, I have almost finished my nearly scrappy bow tie quilt. I tried to make it really scrappy but I had trouble liking it when the colours didn't look right next to each other so I made each block a similar colour. Now I LOVE it. Tomorrow I just need to put the borders on.

To me, its a scrappy quilt as I've used reproductions fabrics and moda fabrics plus a few pretty fabrics. The best thing is they all came from my stash, except the border. its a beautiful red floral I got from work and thats what inspired this quilt.

Last week was my friend Marina's birthday, this is what I made her.
Its a sewing folder to hold all her stitchong projects.

I really enjoy making these, they are quick and fun and the end result is lovely.

My tulips are in full bloom and they are so pretty, I want to pick them and bring them inside but I know they wil last longer in the garden.

Theodora Cleave buttons

Recently I purchased some beautiful Theodora Cleave buttons, they are made from wood and are hand painted. The detail in them is incredible. I have made a few ornaments already.

I made this cute little ornament awhile ago.

I thought they would make nice gifts but I like them so much I think I'll be keeping these for myself.

This reindeer is so cute.

The daffodils in my garden are so pretty I just had to take a photo to share with you.

My husband and eldest son return home today from an over night hike in Cradle Mountan, I hope they had fun. I bet they are very tired though.

A few years ago

before I was a quilter, I used to love doing cross stitch. I made these cushions my for youngest son's bed. I had cross stitch pictures everywhere. I was cleaning out my linen cupboard and there they were tucked up on the top shelf so I thought I would get them down and share a few pictures with you. I loved teddy bears and went through a phase of stitching lots of bears.

Then I discovered these patterns called All Our yestyerdays, and they were designs of children from yesterday year. Well I fell in love with those and I stitched quite a few.

Most were little boy designs as I had 3 little boys myself.

I don't do cross stitch much anymore as I discovered stitchery and patchwork so that has kind of taken over. I still like to look back at the crafts I used to do all those years ago.

Loungeroom finished

Our loungeroom is all done now, its so nice and cozy. The walls were light green, now they are cream and the difference really is amazing, its much brighter and the room looks so different. Here is the cabinet I painted and we also painted around the fire in a colour called vanilla, its a few shades darker than the cream.

And here is the after shot, we got a new mirror, it makes the mantle piece look bigger as well.

Of course it wouldn't look complete without a quilt or two, this little one hangs on the wall.

Next is the kitchen, we are having it all replastered in 2 weeks. My husband will be busy ripping out cupboards, Thank goodness I'll be at work while all that is happening.

I'll be sure to share plenty of photos.

I have been sewing this week and I can't wait to show you my progress, last night my iron broke down so I couldn't press my blocks so I had to stop sewing. I really should have a spare.

Signs of Spring

Its been another busy weekend, remember last weekend when I painted my cabinet and added new cushions to brighten up our lounge room, well we decided to repaint the entire room. It was a lovely soft green which I have always liked but it was time for a change so now the walls are Colonial cream and the fire place and chimney is going to be vanilla frost, I haven't painted that yet. As soon as the room is finished I'll share some photos. We went shopping today to buy some prints to hang over the fire place but we couldn't find anything, so I'll have to look around a few different places. I did find these gorgeous tea towels at Target, as my lounge has red cushions and a vase I thought I would carry the colour through to the kitchen. I have told the boys that they are for decoration only, no grubby hands are to touch them.

Our garden is blooming with most of my spring bulbs in flower, they make such a pretty display.

The hyacinth flowers are my favourite, the perfume is lovely.

I have seeds growing in my hot house so soon I can plant them in the garden for my summer display.

I have no sewing to share this week as I haven't done any except for a little project I'm doing for work, I'll share that soon.

The not so extreme make-over Lizzie Edition

Do you remember I was going to paint my 100 year old crystal cabinet? Well.. I did it and the end result is very pleasing. I decided to give our lounge a mini makeover as well. I have my new leather sofas which are beautiful but the room was kind of simple so it needed a few changes.

It was so full of my collection of cups and saucers and a few other things thrown in there as well.

Yestersday on the way to buy my paint I called in to a thrift shop and I found these fantastic milk jugs, the big one was only $1. Hows that for a bargain.

Its been such a productive weekend, I haven't touched my sewing but tonight I'm going to sit and stitch and watch a movie with my boys. It will be very relaxing sitting there admiring all my hard work.

A French kind of quilt

Don't you love it when you get an idea for a quilt and it comes together really well, this is what happened with this quilt. Months ago I bought these beautiful charm packs called Pom Pom de Paris from work, I didn't have a plan for them at that stage so they just sat in the cupboard. Well the other day I decided to put them to good use and I made this quilt, so easy, just added the cream borders around the squares.

I love the yellow border print, its so soft and delicate. Now it just needs to be quilted.

Tomorrow I'll be back to show you some painting I'll be attempting, it involves a 100 year old cabinet and some cream paint. Very exciting and a little bit scary.

Another finish to share

Here is my newest finish, a beautiful half sqaure triangle quilt. I really enjoyed making this quilt, it was easy and quick to do. I didn't use a pattern, I cut my squares at 6 inches and sewed the 2 lines either side of the middle. Easy peasy I'm sure some of you think I don't do anything else but sew, but I do other things as well, for instance... this morning my family and I went on a 2 hour bush walk. It was -2 degrees but we braved the cold and off we went. I never thought to bring the camera until we got there. It was so nice and quiet.

Although as soon as we got home and had lunch I was into my sewing.

I love the feel of this quilt, its so soft and snuggly now its been washed. I finished sewing the binding down last night.

I also have a shared project to share with you. I did the stitching but my wonderful mother in law put the bag together for me. I was having a bit of trouble understanding the instructions.

Its been a busy day and I'm worn out so I'm going to dish up our dinner soon and have a well earned rest.

More OPAM finishes

This week has been a good week for finishing off a few projects. Apart from going to work each day and doing after school activities I have been sewing and stitching.

This is a doiley designed by Leanne Beasley, I love her patterns and I loved making these. I thought the ric rac would be tricky to get right but it turned out just fine.

I loved making this one, I stitched on linen and its so nice to work with. The blossoms were fun to stitch.

I definately am Happy when I'm stitching.

Another finish is this cushion designed by Lynette Anderson, this is a sample for the shop. If you look closely you will see the word Esme's above the shop door. This is the name of the quilt shop where I work. I thought it was a nice touch.

Another project finished

I had a busy weekend with my sewing, I got lots done including finishing off this beauty. This is what I call my Bliss quilt, the fabric is gorgeous and I thoroughly enjoyed putting this quilt together. Any kind of stitchey quilt is my most favourite to make.

This is my favourite block.

My photo skills are improving, I get lots of inspiration from other blogs and the way people photograph their quilts. If you look closely you will see a gold fish swimming away. We have a big pond in our back garden.

Yesterday while I was whipping up yet another swoon block (photo of that to come) I had a few scraps of fabrics left so I made this dresden plate, I think I'll turn it into a cushion as it will be go nicely with the quilt when I finish.

I also have almost finished a cushion for a shop sample so I'll share that with you soon.

Christmas In July

My online stitching group had a christmas stocking swap, we all had to make a stocking of our choice and send it to our partners, this is what I received from Lynda, I was a bit spoilt and got more than just a stocking.

Lynda made me the most gorgeous Lollipop made from punch needle. Its so cute.

Thankyou Lynda, I love everything you sent me, including the cross stitch patterns.

This is the stocking I made for Tracy, Its a Bronwyn Hayes pattern.

A few weeks ago my wonderful husband surprised me with a hot house. I love to grow plants from seeds so now I have the perfect spot to do so.

Today I filled up all the seedling trays with seeds, I have poppies, heartsease, delphiniums and swan river daisies. I also replanted some geraniums.

I can see myself spending alot of time in here. Enjoying the piece and quiet.

The iris are the first spring plant to flower in our garden, these are minatures and are very cute.

I did make some time for sewing today, I'll be back tomorrow to share my progress.

Sunday sewing

I have had a great day with my sewing machine, we got lots done. I made and sewed the binding on 2 quilts, I'll share them later when I have the binding sewn down. I also made 2 more blocks for my Swoon quilt, these blocks are such fun to make. I love the blue with the red, they really compliment each other.

I have made 5 now, only 4 to go.

I also sewed the borders on my christmas stitchery quilt, there are 9 blocks altogther and I want to try and have it finished for this christmas, block one is nearly finished. Its a Rosalie Quinlan design.

While I was in a binding kind of mood I sewed it on my new sewing folder which I made a couple of weeks ago, they are easy and very useful, I think I'll have to make a few more.

Now its time to cook dinner so I'll say goodbye, I hope you found some time to sew today.

Gifts for me....from me

I often buy my boys little treats for no reason at all so this time I thought I would buy myself a few things just because...I had seen Anni Downs new book Some kind of wonderful around blog land and I wanted a copy for myself. Lillian ordered a few copies for the shop and of course one for me,its a beautiful book and I can't wait to start some of the projects, I also got Life of a bag which is a great book.

Last night while son number 2 was at basketball I had a quick wander around the shopping centre and I came across these bargains, buy one get one free. I thought they were beautiful so of course I bought them for myself.

I also got these for the same deal, its shower gel and body lotion, they smell divine. I just liked the holder they were in.

Then of course I walked into the newsagent and found this American magazine, it was the front cover that got me, such a fresh picture to brighten our cold winter days.

The quilts on these beds are so pretty, the whole magazine has lovely photos.

Today I got the binding ready to sew on 2 quilts, I hope to get these sewn on tomorrow, I also finished my secret stitching gift and made another big block for the Swoon quilt.

Its been a big week

Do you remember me telling you last week I was battling a bad sinus infection, well it turned out to be an abcess in my tooth. I had such a rotten week with pain, My face was hurting like you would not belive. It got to the point where I couldn't eat or drink as I couldn't stand anything touching my tooth. Time to go to the dentist. What a battle that was trying to get in somewhere, finally I had some luck and I was counting down the hours until I went as I just couldn't wait for them to stop the pain. That was Thursday night and since then I've been like a new woman. I hadn't touched my sewing all week until today, I certainly made up for lost time. I made these two beauiful blocks for a new quilt I'm doing. Its called Swoon by Camille Roskelley. I really like her patterns and her fabrics. I can't wait for Ruby to come out. I have seen a few sneak peeks on line.

I have used fabric from my stash which has made me happy. Its called Flower sugar by Lecien.

I also finished stitching a secret project for a christmas swap I'm in. I'll share more on that later.

Now I feel 'normal' again I have lots of sewing and stitching to catch up on, I hope you find some sewing time to.

A teenager and a new project

Today our middle son turned 13, Where do the years go!!! It just seems like yesterday I was taking him to his first day of school. He has had a wonderful day playing with his ipod touch we gave him. I have had a very quiet weekend as I'm feeling poorly with a bad sinus infection, off to have a CT scan tomorrow and hopefully get it sorted.

Yesterday I did find some time to sit at my sewing machine and make half square triangles for a new project I have wanted to do, I had a fat eighth bundle of Moda Chrysalis and really didn't know what to do with so I came up wih this simple idea.

Of course once I had made a few triangles I had to sew them together.

I think they look really nice set out like this, I sewed 5 rows together last night and another 5 today, I think 3 more rows and it will be big enough.

I like it when a pattern or an idea come together really quickly. I feel like I have achieved quite alot.

We have been to play in the snow

We have lived in Tasmania for 6 years now and each winter we promise to take the boys to the snow but life gets in the way and we don't get there, or we do go but only to find no snow. My boys have never seen real snow close up or even touched it so you can imagine their excitement as we saw lots of snow on the side of the road as we were driving up the mountain, I thought Jacob was going to jump out of the car.

The boys had such fun but didn't really realise how cold the snow would be.

Our youngest son made his very first snowman, isn't he cute!!!!

Its the last day of my holidays today, I have had such a nice break, I got lots of sewing done, went for a long walk each day and did lots of baking.
I love being home and spending time with my family, school holidays are awesome.

A quilt top finished

I sure have been catching up on things during my time off from work, Winter is the best time for those indoor jobs like putting quilt tops together. I did these stitcheries nearly 2 years ago and then they just sat there waiting for me to make them up but I always had other things I wanted to make so they got shoved back into the cupboard until.... Saturday I thought I'm going to get this top completed before I do anything else. So all over the weekend I cut and sewed strips and finally got my quilt top together.

I love this little quilt and now I'm thinking "why" didn't I make it up sooner

A freezing day

Its been such a cold week here in Tasmania, I think its going to be a cold winter. After all the rain we had during the week it was so nice to see the sun today. After all the cloud lifted we could see snow on the mountain, it was so pretty. I just had to share a picture. This is the view from our back garden, how lucky are we.

Yesterday I enjoyed making my first jar cover so much that today I made another one, this time its all fabric without the stitchery. Its smaller than my first one but just as sweet, I added a few buttons just to make it more interesting.

This is a back view just to show you how they do up around the jar.

I have started stitching the pattern for the other design of Lisa's jar cover so I hope to get that done over the weekend, I made mine a little longer by adding a bit more of the design.

In this months homespun magazine there is a fantastic jar cover project by the very talented Lisa over at Cubby House crafts. As soon as I saw these I had to make one, not only because I love them but because I really like Lisa and her blog is full of beautiful projects and inspiration. So here is my version of Lisa's jar covers.

Stitched on linen which I really like to work with, don't look too close at my scalloped edge, that was tricky for me but I'll keep practising until I get it right.

The lady bird won me over, she is so cute. I have traced the other design for another jar cover so today I'm going to start stitching that.

I have a week off from work which I am really enjoying, I have done a few of those jobs that I keep putting off like cleaning the oven. Now I can sit back, relax and get stitching.

A newly finished quilt

I started making this quilt at least 2 years ago I reckon, it has sat at the shop as a top all this time. People have admired it, touched it and patted it. It was getting a bit knocked around so last week I quilted it and got it FINISHED. Hooray. It now hangs in the shop on display. We have kits for sale as well. This quilt is called My favourite things by Kerry Gillespie.

Speaking of getting things finished I have been working on getting my "From the heart" stitchery blocks by Natalie Bird into a quilt top, I have changed the layout slightly,

Still 3 blocks to get sewn. I am using Bliss fabric which is so pretty.

I am on holidays now for a few days which I am really looking foreward to, its term break for the boys so I have a few things planned with them, including going to the movies on Wednesday.
When I'm not busy with the boys you will find me keeping my sewing machine company and whipping up a few more projects. Here's hoping anyway.

Crikey its cold here today, we have had a frost nearly every morning this week and today is no exception, right now its still 0 degrees C. Our bird bath is frozen solid, I hope no little birdies come flying down for a splash, they will be in for a shock.

The frost on my pots looks quite pretty but I think the bulbs are too cold to pop their heads up from the dirt yet.

To keep warm I have been doing lots of stitching, Hubby is on night shift so I can't really get the sewing machine out when he is trying to sleep. I'm hanging out for the day I get my own sewing room. I can sew all day if i want to and not bother anyone.

I have put part 2 and 3 of Vignette together and just started to stitch on it.

I love these little flowers. I quite enjoy stitching on a different coloured fabric for change rather than the plain white or tea stain.

Block 1 is almost done, just a few more flowers and stems to go and I must finish my birds tail.

I'm using Fig tree fabrics for this quilt so I have matched my threads to my fabrics, its quite soft and very pretty to work on.

Instead of doing satin stitch I have done french knots, it takes longer but I like the look better.

Now I have to go out in the cold to put my washing on the line then I can come back inside, sit by the fire with my cup of tea and my stitching.

I've been busy

The weekends always go so fast don't they. I always try to squeeze in as much sewing as I can, as well as baking for the boys lunch boxes and the usual house work and washing. Yesterday and today I was busy making some new projects. Let me introduce you to..... My new lap top bag.

A cute little wallet to hold my needles and sewing goodies.

Another little bag which is supposed to be a book bag (pattern on moda bakeshop) but I will use it for other things as its a bit small.

And finally I have almost finished a big sewing folder that will hold my current project, Ok a few projects that I have on the go will fit in there quite nicely, like my vignette blocks and my gardeners journal blocks that I'm busy stitching.

All these projects started with the book bag, I liked the pattern so much I thought I could make a few changes and make it bigger or smaller. I joined all my strips together and then quilted it at work on the long arm machine then it was just a matter of cutting out the right sizes. Easy peasy.

Isn't this the cutest ornament, Its a Marg Lowe design and the button is Theodora Cleave, her buttons are beautiful and Marg does wonders with them when she designs projects to go with the buttons. I loved making this and now I want to make more. Today my sewing machine has been helping me sew up a storm, actually my sewing space looked like it had been hit by a storm. I had several projects on the go all day but I almost have some finishes so I'll be back tomorrow to share.

Its been such a cold weekend here in Tassie, for me its the perfect weather to stay inside by the fire and sew, sew, sew. I made a couple of little bags which turned out so well, some times I even surprise myself when I make something and it looks as it should, the binding was a little tricky but I got there in the end.

They were fun to make and I think I'll have to make a few more. I just need to sew on a press stud to keep it closed.

I also made these 9 patch blocks today, its a new range by Sweet water called Hometown, we got some jelly rolls in at work on Friday and I just had to have one. I'm sure many of you know that feeling. As I progress with this project I'll share more photos, for now I'll have to say goodbye and start cooking dinner, the boys are starving as always. I hope you found some sewing time today.

A lovely weekend

I had a lovely mothers day yesterday, Paul and the boys spoilt me rotten which was so nice, I cooked dinner but they all washed up. They gave me this yummy cake which we had for afternoon tea. My husband actually surprised me with a new leather lounge suite, its gorgeous. We were thinking about buying one for awhile then last week he said I think I'll get you a new leather lounge for mothers day. It was delivered on Friday while I was at work so when I got home it was all set up and looking lovely. I only wanted a new non stick frying pan which the boys gave me yesterday. So now its a bit of joke in our house. The boys even asked me which I liked best, the pan or the couch.

I did get lots of sewing done, I sewed the borders on this quilt, hooray its nearly finished. I have been working on and off this quilt for over a year. Just one leaf to applique and few more centres for the flowers.

I also got my Gardeners Journal out and sewed 2 blocks together, I'm quite enjoying stitching this project.

This one is all sewn and ready for my stitching.

I hope all the mums out there had a wonderful mothers day and you got some sewing time.

A nice surprise

Last weekend here in Launceston we had our annual craft and quilt fair. Members of the Tasmanian Quilt guild enter their quilts in the exhibition. Lillian entered her dragon fly quilt which she made and I quilted.

It won 2nd prize and because I quilted it, I recieved a certificate. I was thrilled and it was a great confidence booster. Lillian actually designed the pattern which I used to do the quilting, its a lovely design. You can see some of it in the close up shot.

Lots of sewing

I have had this week off work for easter and I have had a lovely time doing my sewing. I got this quilt together, its a simple log cabin and I found the pattern here at the moda bakeshop, the pattern is called Cabin in the hills, today I just need to get the borders on.

On Thursday I had a sewing day with my friend Marina, I went to her house for the day and we sat and stitched, it was lovely, her husband even cooked our lunch, thanks Nara, It was yummy.I worked on my Down in the garden block number 2. Just the butterflies to sew on now. I'm loving this project, its so pretty.

I also got this UFO out of the cupboard and got it together, I started this quilt last easter, all the flowers are paper pieced and very nice to do. I just need to applique a couple more leaves and the flower centres. I hope to do that today.

Monday sewing

Today I got heaps of sewing done, I finished Lynette Anderson's project "My Garden" Tomorrow I'll take it back to work for Lillian to put on display.

This little cottage is my favourite block, I loved making this one.

I also made 41 of these blocks for a new project I started. I found the pattern on Moda bakeshop. I plan to work on this later in the week so stay tuned to see how it comes together.

Happy Easter

Easter is a good time for catching up on some sewing, I have 4 days off and I plan to make the most of them. Yesterday I made this camera bag, the pattern can be found here on the moda bakeshop. I used a charm pack of Oasis, its such pretty fabric and a little bit of meterage for the lining and handle. My camera isn't that big so I thought I could use the bag for my quilting goodies or even a lunch bag.

Easter bunny likes the bag, he thought it could hold lots of easter eggs.

Today I'm going to work on my new table runner which is designed by Leanne Beasley, if you haven't guessed already you will know how much I love her projects.

I have put 6 rows together already, there is a little bit of stitchery on a few blocks so I will trace them then I can stitch on it at night while we watch tv.

Another thing I do every easter is plant my bulbs around the garden, I planted 4 packets early this morning so tomorrow I'll plant these ones. I love to watch these grow then enjoy the flowers in Spring time.

A girls day out

On Saturday myself and two dear friends headed off to Melbourne for the day to visit...... When we walked in we didn't know what to look at first, there was so many stalls. This one called Threadbear was beautiful, they had old fashioned patterns and plenty of reproduction fabrics. We spent alot of time at this stall.

The building is beautiful, when you looked up it was amazing to see all the art work and the architecture of the building is fascinating.

These were some of my purchases of the day, 2 rolls of beautiful fabric. Just brought because I loved them.

Plenty of paper piecing supplies, there was so much variety which was great.

Some ric rac and more "just because I love it fabric."

When we were flying over the city of Melbourne the lights looked so pretty, I just had to take a photo.

I had such a fun day, I haven't laughed so much in ages. It was a great day out and just what I needed, thankyou girls. Will you come with me again next year?

Beautiful gifts

My online sewing group have just had an Anni Downs swap and these are the beautfiful gifts I recieved from Peg, I have never had a project made from wool before and its so nice. This table runner is just gorgeous

Look at this purse, isn't it so sweet, I have put my needles in there for safe keeping.

My presents were wrapped in pretty fabric, they will definately come in handy. Thankyou so much Peg, my gifts are just lovely.

This is what I made for my partner Kerry, the cushion is from Anni's book An angels story. I enjoyed making it. Hope you like it Kerry.

Hexagons

Its been slow but I am getting there and doing a few more hexagons. I have really enjoyed fussy cutting some of the fabric I have, the effect they have is really interesting. Its such a portable project which is what I like. These one I think I'll save for centres, they are so cute.

Its going to be such fun, I'll be taking my camera so I'll try and take lots of photos to share.

Sunday Stitching

Today I was determined to finish this project, I had a little bit of stitching to do which I did this morning then this afternoon I got it all done. I love Leanne Beasley designs and this stitches keeper was lovely to stitch.

There is alot of stitching on it but the end result is worth all that hard work. Now I have another April finish for OPAM.

I've been busy

On Saturday I had a pile of fat quarters sitting in the cupboard and after some sewing on the weekend and some machine quilting today, I now have a new quilt. I love this quilt, the fabric is Riley Blake which I really like. I decided to just stipple the quilt all over as it was pretty enough with all the floral blocks.

I even got clever and quilted my name into it. I thought it turned out Ok, what do you think? Now I just need to bind it.

A new quilt

What do you think of my new quilt? I started it yesterday afternoon and put the final borders on this afternoon, yep a 24 hour quilt. I have made this quilt before using my flower sugar fabrics. I bought some Riley Blake fabric called Sweet divinity at christmas time and it was hard to decide what to make from it, as the prints are quite big I didn't want to cut them up too small so this pattern was perfect. I'm hoping to get some time this week to quilt it.

I also have my first OPAM finish for April, I made these little cushions to fit in my box with other mini cushions, they were fun and quick to make. Using my reproduction fabric stash but these babies didn't use much fabric at all.

Leanne Beasley is my favourite designer, I have made alot of her projects and it was such a thrill to meet her, it was even more exciting when she said how much she loved my post card quilt. Leanne designed this quilt some time ago and its in her book Romancing the Road Trip. I was so happy to have this photo with Leanne.

Here is Sarah and Leanne with Sarah's beautiful noticeboard from the vignette magazine.

Leanne sat at our table and chatted with us all and showed us a few new techniques on paper piecing.

Here is leanne's hexagon quilt, its truly amazing and I loved seeing all the beautiful fabrics Leanne used. She even did fussy cutting in some blocks using Rosalie's new fabric. I am going to attempt my own hexagon quilt, who would like to join me?

I told you I didn't get much stitching done, look at this. I think I maybe did 50 stitches in all. There was just so much to take in and things to see. I couldn't concentrate on stitching.

I have done a few more stitches since last Saturday, I'll share that with you later.

The Gathering part 2

Today I would like to share with you Rosalie's projects she had on display at the Gathering, Rosealie has been busy writing new projects for an upcoming book so that will be one to look out for. She said it will be available to buy in around 6 weeks. Of course I had to get my photo taken with Rosalie, she was so nice.

This beautiful display is Rosalie's christmas and everyday projects, they are all gorgeous and they looked so nice on the table all together.

Look at these tiny dolls, they are going to be in the new book.

And this lovely redwork is also a new project for the book. Its wrapped around an art canvas and looks fantastic.

Plenty of Rosalie's fabric Sweet Broderie was for sale at the shop. Its so pretty.

These were my purchases for the day. A few fat eights and a new to me fabric glue pen, these pens are great for doing paper piecing, you just run the glue along the edge of the paper and fold the fabric over. No tacking needed. The glue just washes out in water. Leanne showed us her hexagon quilt that is in the Vignette magazine so I am a little bit tempted to have a go at making one myself.

The Quilted crow's Gathering part 1

Yesterday I headed off bright and early with Sarah and Roseanne to Hobart for The Quilted crows gathering, the guest designers were Leanne Beasley and Rosalie Quinlan we had such a good day. Roseanne Had me in fits of laughter many times throughout the day. It was so good to catch up with our fellow Tassie bloggers, each time we get together we share a table and have a great time together, It was also lovely to meet Jan. I hope you had a great day Jan.

The shop which is now in an old church looked amazing, it was my first visit since they moved and it is definately the WOW factor when you walk in the door.

Everyone was busy, looking and shopping.There was about 45 ladies there which was good, it was intimate and not loud.

This was Leanne's project for the day, its a needleroll. I decided to make this project and the amount of stitching I got done was pitiful. I will share that later. I was too busy shopping and talking.

Rosealie's project was this beautiful bag. Its all needleturn using the fabrics from her beautiful new range Sweet Broderie.

My new table runner

I have a new runner for my kitchen table, its part of the Prairie women's sewing circle I joined last year. It turned out lovely, the bear paw blocks are only 3 inches and so cute. Of course its all made with reproduction fabrics, my absolute favourite.

Next Saturday I'm heading down to Hobart for the day with Sarah and Roseanne to the Quilted crows gathering. The guests for the day are Leanne Beasley.

And Rosalie Quinlan, I cannot wait. Its going to be such a fun day catching up with everyone I know. I'll be taking my camera so I'll have lots to share.

Long weekend of sewing

I have had a wonderful long weekend, the weather was beautiful, my children were busy and I got lots of sewing done. On Saturday afternoon I started cutting and making these 4 patch blocks. They soon became part of some strips.

By today I had got this much of the quilt done. Its a Schnibbles quilt that I have made bigger so its going to be a lap size. This is such a fun quilt to work on. I hope to have it finished by the end of the week.

This afternoon I photographed a few of my quilts to put in my quilt journal. This one I made in 2008. Its called Flower Bed by Bronwyn Hayes.

Here is my latest finish, Its my Flower sugar 2 quilt and I LOVE the way it turned out.I spent some time quilting a beautiful flower pattern, it looks so pretty.

First finish for March

My Happy Campers quilt is all finished, I loved making this quilt, it was fun and quick to do. I used American Jane fabrics and an off white homespun.

Now that quilt is all done its time to show you a sneak peek of a new project I'm working on. It involves half square triangles and dresden plates. Its a long weekend here this week end so I plan to do lots of sewing, I hope to show you alot more over the next few days. What do you think so far?

Goodies in the mail

Today I recieved my mug rugs from the swap I joined, these beauties came from Kathy in the USA, Thankyou so much Kathy, they are lovely, the fabrics are my favourite reproductions.

This week I have been stitching my Vignette block, I have the new issue and its full of wonderful projects. My block is nearly finished, just the side to do then I can start part 2. Roll on the weekend.

I couldn't help myself

When I got to work yesterday I was so excited to see this gorgeous fabric sitting on the counter, I have admired this range on the internet for quite some time and pondered over buying some. Well I couldn't help myself and I ended up buying a layer cake, plus I put another layer cake aside to buy next week, I have a quilt in mind already for these fabrics, stay tuned for more.. I can't wait to start cutting.

Today I recieved my block of the month of the Civil War chronicles, I can't wait to start that either. Oh if only I didn't have to sleep I could get so much sewing done.

The fabrics are so lovely, reproductions have to be my favourites.

Another "couldn't help myself " moment was last night at dinner time, I made home made pizzas on pita bread, the pizzas were as big as the dinner plate, when I sat down to eat mine and offer to cut up pizza slices Nicky was already into his. I just had to take his photo.

Another finish

One last finish for February to put on my OPAM list is My Garden by Lynette Anderson, I have been doing this sweet little quilt as a sample for the shop where I work. It was a block of the month so its been in the making for the last 9 months. Finally its all done. The buttons really make this quilt, they are beautifully painted and just so cute.

The house block is my favourite.

We are going to be doing Lynettes next button BOM which is christmas related, It starts next month and from a few snippets that I've seen its looks lovely.

A weekend away

We have had a lovely weekend away in Hobart, it was a surprise for our boys. We got up on Saturday morning and said pack a bag we are going away for the weekend, they didn't belive us to start with. We stayed at Cozy cabins as its always quite reasonable and we can take our own food and cook in the kitchen, Nicky thought he would be funny and hide in the wardrobe, he called me into his room and there he was in the cupboard.

The boys played hand tennis as we don't have tennis raquets, they enjoyed themselves.

These are the cabins we stayed in, they are quite good. There are 4 bunk beds, a double bed, a kitchen and a table and chairs. Also a bathroom.

I think these cabins are more expensive to stay in as they have a balcony and a lovely view.

While we were in town we did a bit of shopping and iI visited the Needlewoman, its a beautiful shop but one of those that you feel you shouldn't touch anything. Everything was perfect. I wasn't really game to ask if i could take some photos, I did make a few purchases, some fat quarters and a charm pack of Blackbird designs new range called Wild rose. Its very pretty. I did do some stitching but I'll share that tomorrow.

I'm so excited

Just before christmas, the editor of Down Under Quilts magazine e-mailed me and said she had seen a picture of one of my quilts and wanted to know if she could publish it in the magazine in a feature on basket quilts, well after I Picked myself up off the floor and sat back in the chair and thought about it for a whole 2 seconds I e-mailed back and said that would be great. Well today the issue arrvied and there it is on page 14 along side another beautiful basket quilt.

I was so excited to see MY quilt in print. Never in a million years did I think my quilts were good enough for a magazine. it just goes to show you can do anything if you set your mind to it.

Now its time to get off cloud 9 and start cooking dinner.

Fabric clean up

Unfortunately we don't have a spare room in our house for me to use as a sewing room, so I have to store all my quilting goodies and fabrics in boxes in the laundry. This is a good way of storing things but it can get very messy so today I decided to have a clean up. it went from this...... boxes overflowing with my reproduction fabrics

to this ........................ I went to our local discount store called Chicken feed and I bought these under the bed storage boxes for $10 each. They hold heaps of my fabrics all neatly folded and ready for me to just grab. I now need to make the effort to put fabrics back neatly.

It wasn't just a tidy up day for me, I did fit in a bit of sewing which I'll share with you later on, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Steady progress

I am really enjoying working on my new project with the Flower sugar fabrics, this quilt is coming together really quickly, I hope to do a bit more today. I finished the sudoku quilt sample for the shop, I have had many customers say how lovely it is, we had to order more kits as this range of fabric is so popular. Its called Perrenials by Kansas Troubles, these ranges are so beautiful, I have collected quite a few over the years and I try to make something with each new range.

Now its back to my sewing machine to see what else I can get finished this weekend, I hope you find some sewing time.

Mug rugs

Its so quiet in my house right now, my boys have gone back to school today. My middle son Jacob was very nervous as its his first day of high school. I know he will be fine but I'll be worrying about him all day. Lucky I've got work to keep me busy. I joined my first mug rug swap and these are the two I made. I thought they turned out quite well, Right now they are on their way to Amercia.I enjoyed making these and will definately looking for some more swaps to join. My quilt is finished

Its always a great feeling to finish a quilt. Yesterday I quilted my French general quilt and I'm so happy with it, The quilting pattern is called Country Garden, to me this pattern is elegant and old fashioned whereas Lillian says its funky and retro, Isn't it funny how we both look at the same pattern but see something totally different.

I love all French general fabrics but Maison DeGarance is my most favourite.

Now this quilt is finished its time to think about a new project, so I took these beauties out of the cupboard....
