Hanging quilts

I decided I wanted to hang this quilt of mine in the hallway, after alot of discussion with my husband about how to actually attach it to the wall we came to a compromise and here it is. We ended up putting in 2 cup hooks and placing the rod in each end. I'm still not happy with it so I'm trying to talk Paul into making me a shelf so I can hang the quilt from the bottom of it, How do you hang your quilts???? any ideas would be great.

It looks lovely there on the wall with your display, Leanne. I have yet to hang a quilt but I would definitely opt for something sturdy. The shelf idea sounds like the way to go.....Ann :)

Well I have 2 hanging from a wooden shelf that has a bit of weight itself alone and all the others are either with cuphooks or nails depending on the size.
I think if you want to make a feature out of it do the shelf and display all similar things on it, like you have done

If you use a wooden slat instead of dowel, and make your rod pocket a tad in from the ends, you can attach little bracket thingies on the wall, and your quilt will be flat on the wall, with no wood showing. Sometimes another slat on the bottom helps it to stay flat.

No matter how you hang it, it'll look beautiful! Mine's still incomplete :-(

I have never hung a large quilt on the wall, but I do have a large quilt hanger for one that you clamp the top of the quilt between the wood and then hang it up. It isn't supposed to be a good way to do it. Some people use a drapery rod and that seems to work, but it isn't flat against the wall. Ruth

I am hoping to learn how to properly hang quilts too. I think it looks great on that wall.

It is lovely Leanne. I have wooden walls so I have used a quilt hanger at the top and double sided tape (naughty) at the bottom to hold it in against the wall. Not sure how it would go with plaster walls because of the weight.....
