Sunday sewing

I am making steady progress on my 1930's sampler, today I made another 4 blocks.
I really like this pink and black fabric together.

Black and orange go well also, kind of reminds me of autumn colours.

I think every sampler quilt needs a star block.

Here they are all together. I plan on using a green sashing with red cornerstones.
Its back to work for me tomorrow, my holidays have gone so quickly. I have enjoyed being home and doing my sewing. I hope you found some sewing time today.

Stitching day fun

On Friday a group of us Tassie Bloggers got together for a fun stitching day, we had a ball. We all met up at Calico crossroads where pauline had a room all set up for us to stitch. There was alot of talking going on and not much stitching but thats what a day out is all about.
I couldn't resisit buying these beautiful fabrics called Antique Rose by Black bird designs.

And this cute little wall hanging.

I loved this BIG cup and saucer full of cottons,

Here is Sarah, Cathy and Alex busy stitching.
Thankyou girls for such a fun day, I can't wait for the next one.

Look what I made

My family and I have just come back from a week at the beach, we had a great time. We went with 4 other families so there was lots of fun. I did take some stitching with me but I'll share that another time, I want to show off my new quilt I made. I got this kit for Christmas. Its the new French General fabrics called Maison DeGarence. I think I spelt that correctly. It was so easy to put together, It uses a jelly roll and then the centre panels. I actually sewed the strips together last week then today I started cutting and putting it together and it was done in an afternoon. I'm so happy with it.

I love this fabric so much that I have started making hexagons for a new project. These are fun to do. I hope you found some sewing time today.

To all my fellow Aussie bloggers...... Happy Australia Day.

Flowers and Stitching

Look at these gorgeous flowers, to look at them you would think they were minature roses but they're not. Would you belive they are geraniumns, yes the boring old geranium is no more. I'm not sure what this variety is called as I grew them from a cutting but they are definately one of my favourites.
For a little while now I have been wanting to make a 1930's quilt, it took me ages to decide on a pattern then I thought why not make a sampler quilt so thats what I'm doing. I wanted to make 15 inch blocks and that was harder than you would think to find the block patterns, I found a few freebies from the internet then my good friend Kate lent me a book and its full of 15 inch blocks.

I have made 3 so far and its looking really good, I want to make 25 blocks so it will fit a queen size bed I haven't made a big quilt for ages so I hope I'm up to the challenge.

Lilliums and stitching

I am really enjoying stitching Lynette Anderson's My garden, I just finished block 7, only 2 to go.I thought this little beehive was so cute. It was fast to stitch to. The bee button really makes this stitchery come alive.

Yesterday I was looking at this blog and I saw some beautiful Lilliums so I just had to share mine with you, this is the first year I have tried Lilliums and I was so pleased with how well they grew.

This colour is my favourite.

Stitching around the block

It took a bit longer than the 2 weeks allocated for this project but I finally finished Kate's stitching around the block, I really enjoyed making the little hexagons. I'm sure once Kate sees her project on my blog she will pop into my work to collect it. I hope you like it Kate.

A few new purchases

While we were away at Christmas my mother in law took me to this fantastic quilt shop called Honeysuckle patchwork and stained glass, it was a lovely shop, I fell in love with this bundle by Riley Blake, its not something I would normally buy but they were so pretty and I just had to have them. I think in the summer time I like the lighter colours for a change. I plan to make myself a quilt with these beauties. I also found some cricket themed fabric, my boys all play cricket so this was another "had to have " purchese, I really don't know what I'll make as there was nothing else to go with it. Any suggestions????

And of course I couldn't go past these reproduction fabrics, these really are my favourite.
This past week I have been quite busy with my sewing, I'll share some projects soon.

Room 1 finished

Today we moved the boys into their new room, all the furniture looks really nice. Nicky spent ages setting up all his Star Wars Lego. I'm not sure the doona covers match the new wall colour but I'll get over it and maybe even look around for some new ones.

I went to spotlight today to look at new curtains but they had nothing I liked so I'll have to look at other shops. We did buy the teraline for the windows so the boys have some privacy.

Now its time to makeover our bedroom, as we swapped rooms with the boys we had to pull apart all the beds and shift all the furniture so now we have a mattress on the floor for a few days. I have chosen my paint colour so its good bye blue and white and hello Sherbert green, I hope it looks alright.

At least when my husband shuffled all our things from room to room he folded my quilts nicely on the cupboard. Isn't he a good boy. Hopefully by the weekend I'll have some new "finished" photos to show you.

from drab to Fab...

This weekend has seen me doing No sewing at all. Instead I have been painting. We have decided to swap bedrooms around so I have repainted our room so it suits my boys Jacob and Nicky. It was a chocolate milk colour but now....
its a beautiful blue/aqua. The colour is called Snow Glow and it suits the room perfectly, its amazing how a change of colour and a new light shade can change the whole look of a room, I still need to buy new curtains.

It looks so clean and fresh. Tomorrow we can move the furntiure in. I hope to do that early then I can get my sewing machine out in the afternoon and get some much wanted quilting done. I hope you got some sewing done today.

The big 5 0

Well its been a very fun week for me. Last Saturday I turned 50. It was a fun day of celebrations followed by a wonderful dinner with 30 ...
